I now have all the content of my HD Tivo (along with live TV) available wherever I have cell coverage. Note that this software costs $30 (for some reason I thought it was free when I purchased my Slingbox). The picture and sound quality on my Verizon XV6900 are very impressive. My Slingbox Solo was a great purchase. I strongly recommend the Slingbox Solo. I now have the ability to view programs from my HD Tivo on any web-enabled PC (note: the video is not rebroadcast in HD, but the quality and aspect ratio are outstanding). I ran into some router port-forwarding issues during my initial setup, but the outstanding Slingbox Support Tech was able to get this configured for me (using remote access) very quickly. I'm winding down on my 30-day trial period of the Windows Mobile software, I plan to purchase it once I'm done with this review.
I would buy it today if AT&T would quit punishing iPhone users. I was ready to buy this until I found out that AT&T and Sling Media will only let me use it with my iPhone on WiFi not 3G.
The system was connected, setup and fully operational in about 15 minutes. I received my slingsolo two days ago and fooled around with a linksys WGA600n to connect to home router. I have tested reception via MAC lap in a 3 level house with many circuits and don't get problems. It works flawlessly and I only regret wasting yesterday with the linksys device that didn't work for me (may be a reliable device for others). About 4 long, frustrating telephone tech calls later and with no sustained success in getting the sling up & running, I boxed up the WGA & ordered the sling turbo 1-port connector (next day delivery). UPS & turbo arrived about an hour ago.
Also be mindful that the performance of the Slingbox is highly dependent on your internet connection (at both the sending and receiving end) as well as the performance of the receiving computer.Although the quality of the video is nowhere near High Definition, even across a LAN, it can easily equal Standard Definition broadcast TV even across the internet at peak hours. I purchased the Slingbox in order to watch TV while I am away from home. The set up was pretty easy, although the instructions don't give you much help.
Very cool. It's like watching TV on some kind of new fangled invention. I leave my perfectly good cable connection back home for two months and have to buy sat tv up in my cottage in Canada.
It really works. Whoop-dee-doo. I was worried that it might not work before I actually got up here and tested it out, but it really does work.
We have a vacation home in Canada and I have always been on the horns of a video dilemma. I have wireless internet up here and Verizon FIOS back in the states. All hail Slingbox.
Now, I have all my home channels up in Canada. The reception is a bit low res but not bad for CNN, the Daily Show, etc.
